Preparing for Your Minor Surgery Appointment at Waverley Park

Getting ready for a minor surgical procedure can feel a little nerve-wracking — but at Waverley Park Minor Surgery, our team makes sure you’re fully informed and comfortable from your first appointment to your recovery.

1. Before Your Consultation

  • Your GP will fill out a referral form, which is needed before we can schedule any procedure.
  • Think about your medical history: tell us about blood-thinning medications (like warfarin, aspirin), allergies, or any previous surgeries.
  • Write down any questions you have about the procedure — our doctors welcome an open conversation.

2. On the Day of Your Procedure

  • You can bring a friend or relative for support.
  • Do not shave the area to be operated on unless specifically told to do so.
  • Important: Don’t stop any of your medications (especially blood thinners) unless your doctor tells you.

3. During the Procedure

  • We use local anaesthetic, so you will stay awake but the area will feel numb.
  • The procedure usually takes around 30 minutes, though more complex cases can take longer.
  • If we remove tissue for analysis, it will be sent to a pathology lab and your GP will receive the results.

4. After the Procedure – Wound Care

  • You will receive specific instructions for caring for your wound, such as how often to clean it, and if / when you can remove dressings.
  • If stitches are used, we’ll ask you to come back for a follow-up appointment to remove them.
  • Until the wound heals, avoid activities that might stress the area. Your doctor will guide you on when you can go back to work or do exercise.
  • You should be able to drive home, unless advised otherwise.
  • Wait ~48 hours before showering or getting the wound wet; we’ll let you know the exact timeline.

5. Possible Risks & When to Call Us

  • Some swelling or redness is normal. But if you notice excessive bleeding, pain, or discharge, call us.
  • Scarring is possible — we’ll talk about how to minimize scarring, for example, with massage or special creams.
  • Rarely, you may feel numbness or tingling. If this happens, let us know so we can evaluate.

6. Follow-Up & Healing

  • Attend any follow-up appointment for stitches or check-up.
  • Use the aftercare instructions we provided — they make a big difference in healing well.
  • Keep in touch: If anything feels off, we are just a call away (0141 632 8883) from our Glasgow clinic.

Conclusion:
Being prepared helps you feel in control. At Waverley Park Minor Surgery, we value clear communication and patient safety, making sure every step — from your referral to your recovery — is smooth and reassuring.
